A quartet of all-MLS matchups highlights US Open Cup quarterfinal action

The quarterfinals of the 2026 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup—US Soccer’s national club championship—are here! The quarterfinals feature eight clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS), as the three remaining lower-division sides were eliminated in the Round of 16. The remaining field consists of the five previous US Open Cup champions, including the clubs that have won four of the last six titles.

All four matches will stream live on Paramount+ and CBS Sports properties. CBS Sports will also provide pre- and post-match studio coverage each matchday on Paramount+ and CBS Sports Golazo Network. After the quarterfinals, the semi-finals will be held on 15 and 16 September and the final will be held on 21 October.

Orlando City SC (Div. I, MLS) VS. Atlanta United FC (Div. I, MLS)

7:30 PM ET; Inter & Company Stadium; Orlando Florida; Paramount+ / CBS Sports Golazo Network

Southeastern rivals and recent Open Cup champions Orlando City SC and Atlanta United FC are set to face each other for the 27th time – just days after playing out a 1-1 draw in a league match on Saturday in Orlando. The pair had met only once before in an Open Cup game, a 2–0 semi-final win for Atalanta at the Inter & Company Stadium on the way to the 2019 tournament title. This year, both Orlando and Atlanta are struggling to climb above the playoff line in the Eastern Conference, with each side having less than five regular season wins to start the year. Despite their respective slow starts to MLS play, both sides have lost only once in their last five meetings and have also enjoyed strong starts to their Open Cup campaigns; Orlando defeated FC Naples in the Round of 32 and New England Revolution in the Round of 16, while Atlanta defeated regional foes Chattanooga FC in the Round of 32 and Charlotte FC in the Round of 16. A win on Tuesday evening will ensure a trip to the semi-finals for the first time since both sides won the Open Cup trophy, Orlando in 2022 and Atlanta in 2019.

St. Louis City SC (Div. I, MLS) vs. Houston Dynamo FC (Div. I, MLS)

8 PM ET; Energizer Park; St. Louis, Mo.; Paramount+ / CBS Sports Network

St. Louis City SC and Houston Dynamo FC aim to take a 3–3–2 all-time series lead as well as advance to the Open Cup semifinals, something St. Louis has never accomplished in its four years of existence and Houston has only done four times in 20 years. City SC has struggled in league play this season, although Yoan Demet’s side have collected seven points from their last three MLS matches thanks to wins against Colorado Rapids and LAFC. As for Houston, the Dynamo have won seven of their last nine games in all competitions, and moved up to sixth place in the Western Conference in the process. The ninth meeting between St. Louis and two-time Open Cup champion Houston marks the third contest outside of league play – the two previously met in a two-legged CONCACAF Champions Cup tie in 2024.

Columbus Crew (Div. I, MLS) VS. New York City FC (Div. I, MLS)

7:30 PM ET; ScottsMiracle-Gro Field; Columbus, Ohio; Paramount+ / CBS Sports Golazo Network

In the 30th meeting between Columbus Crew and New York City FC, both sides will be eager to move one step closer to the Open Cup title. Columbus, Open Cup winners in 2002, have not reached the semifinals since finishing runner-up in 2010, while NYCFC have never advanced beyond the quarterfinals in their 12 seasons of existence. Both sides feature a collection of top performers: NYCFC’s Tales Magno recorded his first hat-trick of the tournament in the Round of 32, while Maxi Moralez provided three assists to defeat Hudson River Derby rivals Red Bull New York in the Round of 16, although both will likely be unavailable due to injury. For Columbus, the Crew’s Hugo Picard is tied with Louisville City FC’s Tolu Shounmi as the tournament’s joint-leading scorer after posting braces in consecutive Open Cup matches. Columbus—which relieved Henrik Rydstrom of his duties as head coach on Sunday after going winless in four consecutive games—will be eager to add to their dominant 8-1-6 home record against NYCFC in the pair’s first Open Cup meeting.

COLORADO RAPIDS (Div. I, MLS) VS. San Jose Earthquakes (Div. I, MLS)

10 pm ET; Dick’s Sporting Goods Park; Commerce City, Colo.; Paramount+ / CBS Sports Network

The quarterfinals concluded late Wednesday evening at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, as the Colorado Rapids and San Jose Earthquakes – two of the three MLS originals remaining without an Open Cup title – met for the 82nd time in all competitions. In 30 years and 81 matches, the pair have met only once outside of league play – an MLS Cup playoff contest, specifically the Western Conference Final, which went the way of the eventual champions Rapids in 2010. After a strong start to the season, the Rapids have won only once since defeating Union Omaha in the Round of 32 on April 14. Meanwhile, San Jose at the Bruce Arena has been the early surprise of the 2026 MLS campaign, although the Quakes have slowed down a bit after going on an eight-match winning streak in April, but have now been winless in their last four games due to injuries to Timo Werner and Nico Tsakiris. A win on Wednesday evening would send the Rapids into the semi-finals for the third time in club history – and the first since 1999 – while San Jose have also progressed beyond the quarter-finals on two previous occasions.
