Mumbai: Moderate rain is expected to continue in Mumbai for most of the coming week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy rain at isolated places in the city on Thursday. The forecast indicates a more active monsoon over the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), with heavy rainfall likely over several days over Thane, Palghar and Raigad. According to the IMD’s five-day district forecast, Mumbai is likely to receive moderate rain on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, while light to moderate rain is expected on Monday. Heavy rain has been predicted at different places on Thursday. The department has classified the probability of rain on all five days as “very likely”.Thane is expected to receive heavy rain at isolated places on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday, while moderate rain will occur on Monday and Tuesday. Palghar is expected to receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms till Tuesday before heavy rain at isolated places on Wednesday and Thursday. Raigad is likely to receive the most intense rainfall over the region, with isolated heavy falls on Sunday and Thursday and isolated heavy falls on Tuesday and Wednesday. The IMD warned that heavy rains may cause localized flooding, flash floods in low-lying and urban areas, disruption of road, rail, air and ferry services, rough sea conditions along the Konkan coast and landslides or mudslides in sensitive areas. It also warned that the strong winds accompanying the storm could damage weak trees, old structures and standing crops.
