Woll ends Mooney’s 26-month reign at the top of the ICC Women’s T20I batting rankings

  • Amelia Kerr overtook Hayley Matthews in the women’s T20I all-rounders’ list after a strong 29-month reign.

After scoring her maiden T20I century in the third and final match against the West Indies, Georgia Woll has ousted fellow Australian Beth Mooney from the number one spot in the ICC women’s T20I batting rankings, gaining eight places and leading her team to a 3-0 series clean sweep.

Woll’s innings saw him cross the 800-rating mark with a career-best 815 and top the batting rankings for the first time as Australia won the rain-affected match by 40 runs via the DLS method.

Mooney’s reign, which began in January 2024 when she took over from Tahlia McGrath, ended when Woll scored a 52-ball century in a whitewash against the hosts in Kingstown, St Vincent and the Grenadines. A good result just 72 days before the opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales.

New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr’s explosive all-round form continued in their home series against South Africa. She has become the fourth New Zealander to top the list of women’s all-rounders after Rebecca Steel, Amy Watkins and Sophie Devine.

Kerr ousted West Indies captain Hayley Matthews from the top spot after scoring 105 and taking two wickets for just six runs in a 95-run win against the visitors in the final T20I in Christchurch. She reached sixth place in the list of batsmen and 10th place in the list of bowlers. Matthews has had a strong hold on the number one all-rounder position since October 2023, when he first took over from Ash Gardner.

There were also changes to the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings following the first ODI between the White Ferns and Proteas in Christchurch.

Maddy Green has moved up four places to 13th in the batting charts after scoring 85 in her team’s losing effort. They lost to the tourists in a last-ball thriller, with South Africa’s debutant Kayla Reinecke hitting a six to eventually give her team a two-wicket win.

South Africa’s Anne Dirksen’s innings of 72 runs in 93 balls helped her move up nine places to 42nd among batsmen, while her teammate Ayabonga Kakha’s career-best ODI innings of six wickets for 56 runs saw her move up three places to 17th among bowlers.

Amelia and her sister Jessica Kerr took two wickets each in the first match, with the latter moving up two places to ninth, while the former remained steady at 13th.

In St Kitts and Nevis, Australia have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series against West Indies after defeating the hosts by 103 and 90 runs respectively in their first two encounters.

Although the team’s results were disappointing, West Indies’ Stafanie Taylor’s unbeaten century (105 off 129 balls) gave her team something to celebrate as she jumped 10 places to 28th in the ICC women’s ODI batting rankings.

England’s Sophie Ecclestone returned to the top spot in the ICC Women’s ODI Bowling Rankings after Alana King’s figures of 0 for 42 and 1 for 45 saw her slip to second place in the matches. He has a chance to regain his place as he is just four rating points behind Ecclestone on 747 rating points.

Finally, Australia’s Georgia Wareham moved up eight places to 16th in the all-rounders’ list after scoring a total of 81 runs and four wickets in the first two ODIs against the West Indies.
