Ron DeSantis signs bill to rename Palm Beach airport after Donald Trump donald trump

They have buildings, institutions, government programs, warships, currency, and now Donald Trump is getting an airport named after him while he looks forward to a massive Trump presidential library in Miami.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill Monday renaming Palm Beach International Airport after President Donald J. Trump International Airport.

Trump’s family business filed a trademark application To name the airport in February. If approved, the name change will be effective from July 1.

The Florida airport is the latest in a series of buildings, institutions, government programs, Navy warships, national parks and even money to be named after a U.S. president.

DeSantis also worked last year to acquire a parcel of land in Miami for Trump’s presidential library. On Monday’s Truth Social, Trump Posted A video of the library’s presentation, set to dramatic music, showed a skyscraper with a giant mirror emblazoned with his name and the American flag.

The video includes panning shots of the tower’s exterior and interior, including a presidential jet parked in the lobby along with a gold escalator, similar to the one Trump walked on when he launched his presidential campaign in 2015. Other shots show a giant ballroom, similar to the one he is planning for the White House, a replica Oval Office, rooftop gardens and a large, gold statue of Trump.

A credit states that the design came from Miami-based firm Bermelo Ajamil. Trump posted the video without any explanation other than a link to a new website for the library. “Coming soon,” the website says, along with a link to donate money.

The White House did not immediately respond to questions about the plans.

Trump, a native of New York, moved to Florida in 2019. Prior to the move, he lived in a penthouse in Trump Tower, but has since taken up primary residence at his Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach.

Before the name can be changed, a formal request must be submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration, which must then process the change in various flight charting and navigation databases, and change the airport’s signs.

Last week, Representative Brian Mast introduced legislation to change the airport’s three-letter code from PBI to DJT, reflecting Trump’s initials.

The US Treasury said last week that US paper currency would bear Trump’s signature starting this summer, the first time a sitting president has signed US currency.

Trump’s name has also been added to a planned class of Navy warships, a visa program for wealthy foreigners, a government-run prescription drug website and federal savings accounts for children.

In December, the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which Trump had filled with associates during his board takeover, added Trump’s name to the institution.

Trump’s name was also added to the United States Institute of Peace Building in Washington in December, a few months after his administration seized the nonprofit and nearly closed it.

Earlier this month, a federal arts panel consisting of Trump-appointed members approved a commemorative gold coin bearing his image, part of a series of coins the U.S. Mint plans to produce this year to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

In February, the White House confirmed that Trump had raised the idea of giving up his hold on funding for the New York Hudson River Tunnel project in exchange for Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer supporting renaming Washington Dulles Airport and New York Penn Station after Trump.
