Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has decided to launch its astronaut cadre for common citizens for the first time. ISRO’s Astronaut Selection Committee has kept its stock. However, its criteria have not been released yet.
The committee’s rationale states that the other passengers of the Gaganyaan mission include 6 pilots along with 4 civilian experts. These will be civilian science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workers.
The first batch is only for pilots, the second is for the general public.
- First bag: For the launch of Gaganyaan mission (pilots of the satellite only).
- Second box: For future missions and research (Pilot + Civilian/Scientist).
Revival of four and a half years in training, preparation by 2030 will be the second box
It takes about four and a half years (54 months) for an astronaut from drawing to his training and preparation for the mission. The committee has set a target to completely prepare the second child in the next 72 months and the third child in 96 months.
Flight of civilians will start from the fourth Gaganyaan mission
Even though civilians are joining the other Bachelors, they won’t be going to space right away. According to the committee’s plan, civilian astronauts will be made part of the crew from the fourth manned mission. There is a tradition going on all over the world that even before the technology becomes personal, only jet pilots are sent, only after that comes the turn of personal.
The first batch of Gaganyaan mission included 4 astronauts.
Mission Gaganyaan is ISRO’s first crewed space flight program, which will be launched by 2027. This will be a mission of 3 days. In this, 3 astronauts will travel 400 km into space. They are designed to return them safely to Earth.
The first batch includes four astronauts. ISRO’s first batch included test pilots from the Indian Air Force (IAF). Four astronauts were selected in this. The purpose of selecting these astronauts is to secure the first crew mission.
Fighter plane Air Commander Prashant B Nair, BJP Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, BJP Captain Ajit Krishna, BJP Captain Angad Pratap were included in the first bachelor. The second child may also include fighters, pilots, pilots of fighter jets of the Indian Army.
10 out of 12 astronauts will be civilians, third child will be there
After the mission, ISRO increased the capacity of its mission, so that 3 knots can go into space simultaneously. For this, 12 astronauts will be required in the third batch. The ratio will change completely in this child, which will include only 2 mission pilots and 10 civilian specialists.
This expansion starts from the top floor of the Indian Space Station.
Preparation for Year 2 mission and creating a pool of 40 astronauts
ISRO is now working towards creating a permanent astronaut card. Under this, two human mission missions are planned in a year. The committee has estimated that India should field a total strong pool of 40 astronauts, taking into account long-term teams and international opportunities.
Delay in infra automobile and cell support system is a big challenge
Among the international missions, ISRO also faces the challenge of infra challenge. There is only one standard training center for astronauts in the neutral country, the process of creating a permanent facility has just begun.
Additionally, development of critical technologies such as ‘Environmental Control and Life Support System’ (ECLSS) for the first unmanned mission is also underway, without which human life in space is not possible.
