Delhi Police nabs 966 people in south-east Delhi before New Year under Operation Aghat 3.0

Delhi Police has arrested 966 people and seized weapons, drugs, illicit liquor and vehicles during a massive preventive operation in south-east Delhi ahead of New Year celebrations, an official said on Saturday (December 27, 2025).

He said that in view of the increasing public agitation during the year-end celebrations, the operation named Operation Aaghat 3.0 was launched to curb the activities of organized crime, street crimes and habitual criminals.

“A total of 331 accused were arrested under the Delhi Excise Act, NDPS Act and Public Gambling Act, while 504 people were arrested under various preventive provisions,” police said.

“As part of the targeted action, the police caught 116 listed bad characters, arrested five auto-lifters and four declared criminals,” officials said.

During the operation, the police recovered 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges and 27 knives under the Arms Act. They also seized 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor, 6.01 kg of ganja and ₹2.36 lakh from the gamblers. A total of 310 mobile phones, six two-wheelers and one four-wheeler were also recovered, police said.

“Besides, action was taken against 1,306 persons under the Delhi Police Act, while 231 two-wheelers were seized for violations,” officials said. This action was taken with more than 600 police personnel deployed across the district.

Police said the operation was aimed at preventing any untoward incident during the New Year celebrations, especially in residential areas and slums, and to crack down on organized crime networks and habitual criminals.

“Strict legal provisions, including sections 111 and 112 of the Indian Judicial Code,” officials said. [BNS]will be implemented in appropriate cases, and proposals for expulsion of repeat offenders are also being initiated.

Police said intensive patrolling, vehicle checking and night monitoring have led to a decline in PCR calls related to road crime in the district in the last month.
