A bridge in Maharashtra, reportedly built at a cost of around Rs 48 lakh, has landed in controversy after a viral video showed its railing allegedly breaking with a slight push.
The clip has fueled allegations of poor quality construction and prompted villagers to demand a probe into how such a project cleared quality checks despite the expense.
This bridge is located in Bankaranja village of Beed district. According to residents, the construction was done using substandard materials, making the structure unsafe.
In the video going viral on social media, local resident Durgadas Lamb is shown pushing the railing of the bridge with his foot.
Moments later, the railing is seen easily coming apart, raising serious questions over the quality of work and the materials used.
Villagers say the railings can break even with the slightest push of a hand or foot, which they claim reflects the poor standards adopted during construction.
Villagers demanded investigation
After the video surfaced, Lamb has demanded an impartial investigation into the construction. He urged the Beed District Collector to investigate the project and take strict action against the contractor as well as the engineers responsible for monitoring the work.
Highlighting the alleged flaws in the viral video, he said, “The quality of the bridge should be thoroughly investigated and those responsible will face action.”
Questions on the quality of public works
This bridge falls in the assembly constituency of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Namita Mundada.
The incident has raised questions over how a project costing around Rs 48 lakh could reportedly be affected by such poor construction quality.
No official response has been issued yet by the administration on the allegations of the villagers.
