National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Will remain closed on Tuesday, March 31 and Friday, April 3 on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti and Good Friday respectively. Trade this week was also affected due to reduced holiday schedule, with Dalal Street remaining closed on Thursday for Ram Navami.

In total, there are 16 stock market holidays scheduled for 2026, three of which have already passed. After today and the next two weeks, trading will be suspended on 10 more occasions in the remaining nine months.

After Good Friday, the next holiday in April will be Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, followed by Maharashtra Day on May 1 and Bakrid holiday on May 28.

In the second half of the year, trading will be suspended on Muharram on June 26, Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14 and Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. After this, there will be Dussehra on 20th October, Diwali Balipratipada on 10th November and Guru Nanak Jayanti on 24th November. The final market holiday for 2026 will be Christmas on 25 December.

Will MCX remain open?

India’s largest commodity exchange, Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX), will remain closed for trading in the first session (9 am to 5 pm) on Shri Mahavir Jayanti. As per the schedule on the website, trading will resume in the evening session between 5 pm and 11:30 pm.
For Good Friday, in line with global markets, India’s Multi Commodity Exchange will be closed for both morning and evening sessions on Good Friday, with many also remaining closed for the occasion.


MCX’s annual calendar has announced 16 trading holidays in 2026, during which the exchange will remain partially or completely closed. The next holiday after both will be Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti on 14 April. Like Mahavir Jayanti, trading will remain closed for the morning session and will resume in the evening.
