In Texas, only one seed remained in the draw before the quarterfinals began. That was Peyton Stearns. The world number 62 faced Oksana Selekhemteva in a thrilling encounter that lived up to all its promises.
Stearns led for most of the contest and was ahead 6–1, 4–3 with one break before the Russian found the resources to level all at one set. In the third set, Stearns took a 3-0 lead with a double break. But the world number 76 player on the WTA Tour won four consecutive games.
