Madhya Pradesh left-arm fast bowler Arshad Khan created a historic spell on Saturday, December 6, when he took 6 wickets for 9 runs against Chandigarh at the Jadavpur University Ground. With these magical figures, Arshad has registered the best collection in the history of Shahid Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Miracle happened just before IPL
The 26-year-old Arshad, who is famous for playing for Mumbai Indians and National Super Giants and represents Gujarat Titans in the IPL, broke the joint record of 6/13 held by T Ravi Teja (Hyderabad) and Arjan Nagavaswala (Gujarat) in October 2023. Earlier in 2015, Group’s DS Punia had scored 6/14 and in the same season, Credit’s Swapnil Singh had scored 6/19.
After the batting prices were released, Arshad dismissed Arjun Azad and captain Shivam Bhambri without opening the account in his second over. In the next over, he dismissed Nikhil Thakur for just four runs, which worsened the condition of Chandigarh inside the powerplay.
After breaking Chandigarh’s back with the new ball, Arshad completed the empire and a historic performance in the final overs. In the 19th over, he dismissed Gaurav Puri, Sanyami Saini and Nikhil Sharma with the first, fourth and sixth balls respectively and restricted Chandigarh to 134/8 in 20 overs.

In reply, Madhya Pradesh got off to a poor start and were reduced to 10/2 when Jagjit Singh Sandhu dismissed Stokes Singh and Rahul Botham in quick succession. But the 105-run stand between Harsh Gawali and Harpreet Singh for the third wicket changed the course of the match. Harpreet was out for 48, while Gawli was out for 74* as MP achieved the target by seven wickets in just 14 overs.
Arshad’s name registered now
Shahad’s record-breaking spell has now been recorded as the most brilliant performance in the history of Shahid Mushtaq Arshad Ali Trophy. Additionally, it further cements him as one of the most exciting left-arm seamers in domestic cricket.
