Shattila Ekadashi 2026: Today the fast of Shattila Ekadashi is being observed. This is the most dangerous mantra among all the 24 Ekadashis. Shattila Ekadashi of Magh month is considered in the scriptures as the date that bestows great virtue and salvation. This is considered a rare opportunity to receive the special blessings of Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi. There is a religious belief that the month of Magh is the favorite of Shri Hari himself and fasting, bathing, charity and penance in this month give manifold results.
Shattila Ekadashi is also called “Mokshadayini” because by using six types of sesame seeds on this day, one gets freedom from knowingly or unknowingly sinful deeds and ends the path of happiness and prosperity in life. According to the scriptures, the mole originated from the stones produced from the body of Lord Vishnu during his Varaha incarnation, hence the mole is considered to be missing from the Vishnu element and is considered extremely sacred.

According to Drik Panchang, the end date of Krishna Paksha of Magh month will be 17 minutes before 3 pm on January 13. The fast of Shattila Ekadashi of Udayatithi is being observed on 14 January 2026, i.e. today itself.
End of Shattila Ekadashi fast- The fast will be broken the next day on Dwadashi Tithi. The auspicious time of Paran will be after sunrise on 15th January in the morning from approximately 7 Udyan 15 minutes to 9 Udyan 21 minutes. The classical principle is that Ekadashi fast should be broken on Dwadashi date, this fast is considered fruitful.

The worship method of Shattila Brahmand is very simple but extremely useful. The fasting person should take bath in the morning in Brahma Muhurta with water mixed with sesame seeds and take a resolution of fasting before bathing. After bathing, wear comfortable clothes and install Lord Vishnu or Shaligram at the place of worship. Sesame oil lamp should give flowers, incense and Akshat fearless to God.
Offering food made from sesame seeds and jaggery to Lord Vishnu on this day is considered to be a special reward. Chanting the mantra “Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya”, reciting Vishnu Sahasranama or reciting Narayana Mantra during the puja is very auspicious. If possible at night, singing Jagat, Bhajan-Kirtan and building a house with sesame seeds is also said to be virtuous.
