How to settle traffic challan in Lok Adalat: Step by step guide
Step 1: Check Pending Traffic Challan
Vehicle owners should first check the pending challan on the Delhi Traffic Police website or transport portal. On entering the vehicle registration number or challan number, all unpaid e-challans related to the vehicle will be visible. Only challans visible on these official platforms can be raised.Step 2: Confirm challan eligibility
Not all invoices are eligible. Only minor and compoundable offenses are considered. Serious violations like drunk driving or hit-and-run cases have been excluded and will not be presented for settlement in Lok Adalat.
Step 3: Register online for Lok Adalat
Eligible applicants must complete online registration in advance through Delhi Traffic Police website or DSLSA Lok Adalat Registration page. Details have to be filled carefully. Walk-in cases are generally not accepted.
Step 4: Download token and appointment letter
After registration, a token number and appointment or confirmation slip will be generated. This document should be downloaded and printed, as it is mandatory for entry and case listing.
Step 5: Go to the designated court on January 10
On the day of Lok Adalat, applicants will have to go to the court premises mentioned in the appointment letter. Original documents like vehicle registration certificate, driving license, insurance papers, pollution certificate and challan receipt will have to be carried.
Step 6: Hearing and disposal of the case
A Lok Adalat bench, usually consisting of a judicial officer and a Legal Services Authority representative, will hear the case. Depending on the offence, the bench may reduce the fine or waive it altogether.
Step 7: Pay the revised fine and get the receipt
If an agreement is reached, payment should be made on the same day at the designated counter. An official receipt is issued, and the invoice is marked as resolved in the system.

Delhi Lok Adalat: Challan not eligible for waiver
Serious or criminal violations remain outside the scope of Lok Adalat. The focus remains firmly on minor crimes that are not life threatening.
More than traffic: Lok Adalat will hear other disputes
The National Lok Adalat will also consider civil disputes beyond traffic cases. Family disputes, property disputes and other minor pending matters may get resolved. The judge hears both the sides and passes an order closing the cases under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
What makes this Lok Adalat different
Unlike regular court proceedings, Lok Adalat focuses on settlement. Cases are taken up in a single sitting, fines may be reduced or even waived, and cases are closed on the same day. However, only eligible challans listed on the official portal can be considered, and advance online registration is required in most cases.
